Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has said that the state government has decided to send a proposal to the Center to make Assamese the language of the state. Himant said at a press conference, all Indian states were originally reorganized on the basis of language. Subsequently, the number of people who speak the language of the state may differ due to migration. However, it is important to keep the language on the basis of the creation of the state.

He said that the state cabinet has decided that by amending Article 345 of the Constitution of India, the central government would change the Assamese language to Barak Valley, BTAD region and hill districts. Can declare Assam as the state language.

Sharma said, We will bring legislation in the next assembly session so that it becomes mandatory that Assamese language should be taught as a compulsory subject in all English and other medium schools. However, this law will not apply to hilly districts, BTAD, Bodo dominated areas and Bara Valley.

He said that a bill would be introduced in the Assembly session to protect the land rights of indigenous people. According to the new bill, only one Assam citizen can sell or buy land to another Assam citizen.
