The dependent orphan children of ex-servicemen of the state will now get a lump sum financial assistance of Rs 20 thousand from the department for maintenance till the pension is approved. Earlier this amount used to get ten thousand rupees. The department has doubled it now. Until such orphan children are pensioned, the Department gives a lump sum for their support.

The Military Welfare Department provides financial assistance to orphans dependent on the Reconstruction and Re-establishment Fund. There are hundreds of children in the province whose military father and mother have died. In such a situation, the father's pension is not available to the children immediately. The processing of pension related documents takes time. Within this time, dependents face difficulty in making their living. In such a situation, these dependent orphans can apply for this assistance amount. Financial assistance will be given only once before the pension.

This amount will be received before the boy completes 25 years of age and before the girl gets married. If the orphan child of an ex-soldier will be above 25 years or the daughter gets married then this amount will not be available. Anupam Thakur, OSD, Sainik Welfare Department said that the department will
