Britain's House of Commons on Thursday approved Prime Minister Boris Johnson's agreement to exit the European Union. 330 votes were cast in favor of the agreement while 231 votes were cast in the protest. It is known that Boris Johnson returned to power in the last month on the Breguit issue itself with a strong majority.

Britain's exit from the European Union on 31 January paves the way after years of delay with the approval of MPs on Breguit. However, the 'EU-UK Withdrawal Agreement Bill' is yet to be passed by the undecided House of Lords and the European Parliament, which is being treated as mere formality.

Nearly five decades old membership will end

Britain became a member of the 28-member European Union in 1973. Britain's nearly five-decade-old membership with Breguit will end. Britain will be the first country to do so. However, it will conduct business by 31 December under EU rules.

What's Breggit

Breguit means 'Britain Exit' means Britain's exit from the European Union. In 2016, a referendum was held in Britain about Breguit. In this, more than 50 per cent believed that Britain should exit the European Union, while opting for Breguit.

In the general elections held in Britain this year, the ruling Conservative Party won a landslide victory. Boris Johnson's Conservative Party won 364 seats in the 650-seat parliament. With the election result, the path of Breguit was cleared. More than a dozen Indian candidates also won the election in this election.

This was the largest victory for the Conservative Party since the era of Margaret Thracher in the 1980s. After the results were announced, Prime Minister Boris Johnson bluntly said that we will pass Breguit, which separates Britain from the European Union (EU), by 31 January. That is, Britain will no longer be part of the EU after 31 January.
