People are expected to get relief from skyrocketing prices of onions from next week due to sharp fall in prices. In Lasalgaon, the country's largest onion market, its price has come down to Rs 35 per kg. A month ago it was priced at Rs 86 per kg. In Delhi's Azadpur mandi, its price has come down to Rs 57 per kg. Traders say it will come down to below Rs 50 next week.

A senior Central Food and Consumer Affairs official said that the average price of onions was Rs 3,500 per quintal on Thursday at Lasalgaon Mandi near Nashik in Maharashtra. It was Rs 8,600 per quintal a month ago. In Azadpur wholesale market, onion price of Nashik on Friday morning was Rs 2,100 to Rs 2,200 per mind. The price of good quality Alwar onion was Rs 2,300 per man and imported onion was Rs 2,000 per man.

Onion is reaching more than consumption
Onion wholesale traders in Azadpur mandi Rajkumar said that since onion became expensive, its consumption in Delhi has decreased rapidly. Now its daily consumption has reduced to about 50 trucks. On the other hand, 40 to 50 trucks and 15 to 20 trucks of imported onions are arriving daily from Nashik and Alwar. He said that due to lack of Indian flavor, not easy to melt and large size, buyers of imported onions are finding difficult. In such a situation, the demand is coming out from the hotel only.
