According to Rajiv Mohan, sufficient time has been given to the convicts to appeal against their sentence or to file mercy petition with the President. He said that the court can now issue death warrants in the name of the four convicts without any hindrance. No appeal of the culprits against the death penalty is pending anywhere. They have been given reasonable time to exercise every legal option.
He stated that the period given for filing mercy petition with the President has also been completed. That is why the court can issue a warrant to hang him on January 7 itself. As for the curative petition (corrective petition), it can be filed even after the death warrant is issued. Upon approval of the hearing, execution of the death warrant will be automatically stopped. However, the death warrant cannot be prevented from being issued based on the option being present.
Please tell that the date of January 7 has been fixed for further hearing on the demand of issuing death warrant for the convicts. This may have made the four convicts sleepy, but their lawyer AP Singh is confident. Singh hopes that on the basis of this answer, the court proceedings will be postponed without fixing the date of death on that day itself.
