The central authorities has imposed a 48-hour ban on two TV channels for criticizing the RSS and Delhi Police in Delhi violence and favoring a selected neighborhood. The two TV channels that the Ministry of Information Broadcasting has banned are Malayalam information channels Asianet News and Media One News. The ban has been imposed from 7.30 pm on Friday (March 06) for the subsequent 48 hours.
Both banned channels allege that reporting through the Delhi riots “showed news of an attack on a place of worship of a particular community and was favored by a community”. The order of the ministry despatched to Media One News said that the channel’s “question alleges the inaction of the RSS and Delhi Police.” It “seems critical of the Delhi Police and the RSS.” The channel’s angle is targeted on “vandalism of CAA supporters”.
The ministry on Friday issued two separate orders to the channel citing the alleged violation of the Program Code of the Cable TV Networks (Regulations) Act, 1995.
