An official statement said that broadband Internet services that were shut down after violent demonstrations against the citizenship law would also be restored from Tuesday morning.

This decision was taken in a review meeting of law and order chaired by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. The Assam government announced on Monday that the curfew imposed in Guwahati on December 11 would be lifted from 6 am on Tuesday. Explain that due to the fierce protests on the Citizenship Amendment Act, there is instability in the northeastern states. Curfew has been imposed in many sensitive areas with the deployment of military forces.

At the same time, Assam Minister Hemant Biswa Sarma has also reported that curfew has been completely lifted from every part of Assam from Tuesday. Curfew will not be imposed even at night. Broadband and Internet connectivity services will be restored from the morning itself. The Assam government has decided to lift the curfew following the restoration of peace in the state. So far 85 people have been arrested in connection with the violent incidents. At the same time 5 people died during the protest.

Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta says that the situation is currently under control in the state and the miscreants will be dealt with vigorously. In Guwahati, for three consecutive days, curfew was relaxed and people came out for necessary work. At the same time, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has said that he is dedicated to protecting the rights of the people of the state.

Schools and colleges in Assam have been closed till 22 December. Significantly, after the passage of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2019 in Parliament, violent demonstrations took place in the city and other parts of the state.
