The Himachal High Court has asked the government to file an affidavit on the steps taken to fill the vacant posts of teachers in government schools and to provide other basic facilities. Hearing the PIL on Monday, a division bench of Chief Justice Lingappa Narayan Swamy and Justice Jyotsna Rewal Dua said that the wavering attitude of the government forced parents to admit children to private schools. The High Court remarked that if the situation does not improve, the government schools will be closed.

During the hearing, the court was told that the government is taking quick steps to fill the vacant posts. The court expressed displeasure over the attitude of the Education Department under which all schools in the state lack teachers and other basic facilities. The court observed that unless the state government runs schools with good and basic facilities, it cannot be expected that people will put their children in government schools. During the hearing, the court has also asked the state government to take appropriate steps to provide education to the lower sections of the society. The case will be heard after eight weeks.
