A soldier stationed at Subroto Park post of Delhi Cantt police station shot himself from a service pistol after talking to his wife late Friday.

Hearing the sound of firing, other policemen present in the outpost admitted him to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead. He was shot on the right temple.

No suicide note has been found. Initial investigation revealed that the soldier was under stress from family strife. His wife is also a soldier in the Delhi Police and is posted in the 3rd Battalion.

According to the police, the deceased soldier has been identified as Puran Tyagi (33). Originally a resident of Muradnagar in Uttar Pradesh, Puran lived with his wife in Sadh Nagar in Palam. He was a constable in the Delhi Police in 2006.

He was currently posted at Subroto Park Outpost in South-West District. Policemen posted at the outpost heard the sound of firing on the outpost premises at around 1.30 pm on Friday. On going there, it is learned that Puran has shot at his right temple with a service pistol. He was admitted to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Upon investigation, it was found that he was talking on the phone to his wife before the incident. During this, he had a fight with his wife. After turning off the phone, he went to the outpost to smoke cigarettes, where he shot himself.
