In a stern stance on gender crimes rising from children, the Supreme Court has issued instructions for the entire country on Monday. The court said that two special courts should be set up in the districts where more than 300 such cases are registered. These should be heard only in cases registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Harassment Act-2012 (POCSO).

Earlier on 25 July, the court asked the Center Fund to set up a special court each in the districts where 100-100 cases of poxo are recorded. In this, the appointment of judicial officers and staff and providing basic facilities was the responsibility of the Center.

A bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Justice Anirudh Bose said that cases of poxos will be heard in these courts. The court also directed that short films be made for awareness of sexual offenses by children, which are regularly shown in cinemas and TV channels.

Special court also for rape cases

The court also said that where there are fewer cases of poxos, special courts can be formed for rape cases. Justice Gupta said, I have also been a judge in the High Court and I know that if the number of courts is more and the work is less, then it makes the system ineffective.
