When the Delhi Metro started operating 17 years ago, tokens were offered to travel in it. Single Journey Token introduced for the convenience of passengers. The major challenge before the Metro was that this token used to have a chip of Rs 95, whereas the cost of the token was only four rupees.
There was also a possibility of loss of the metro due to the carrying of passengers' tokens, even though the speed of the metro continued to move forward. However, alternative arrangements were made later. Managing Director Dr. Mangu Singh said these things while sharing his experiences with Metro on the occasion of the program organized at Metro Bhavan on completion of 17 years of Metro operations.
The Managing Director shared his memories of his trip to Japan and said that the first time he saw the exit gate height was too low. Anyone could go out by skipping it. Out of curiosity, he asked a worker that if someone crossed it and went out, he expressed surprise that why someone would do it.
On this occasion, information about metro achievements and network expansion during the last 17 years was also given through a presentation. The program showcased 10 of the best paintings while artists entertained the audience through the Puppet Show, Flute playing.
DMRC executive including TV anchors Rini Simon Khanna and Shammi Narang who shattered the magic of their voice in the metro Directors Anuj Dayal, Mohinder Yadav, Nikhil Giri and other officials of DMRC were also present.
Dr. Mangu Singh, MD, DMRC, sharing 22 years of experience, said that the metro office used to be very small in the initial phase. Due to this another officer was found with two cubicles of 6 times 8 size.
Sreedharan was MD at that time while two new directors were also to take over. During this time, Dr. Singh and his colleague started worrying that the cubicle should not be given to the new officers. To avoid this situation,
both of them removed the walls between the cubicles, which also brought their seats in the open space.
