The artillery was last incorporated in 1988 with the Bofors Cannon, which is currently the most powerful cannon. The 52 caliber ATGS cannon has a maximum firepower of up to 48 km. This is the world record for hitting such a distance in the gun of this caliber.

100 K-9 Vajra Guns to be found
Indian Army is purchasing 100 K-9 Vajra from South Korea. This 155 mm 52 caliber cannon can strike up to 30 kilometers away. Ten cannons have been sourced from South Korea. The remaining 90 will be made by private sector company L&T under Make in India. It costs Rs 4,366 crore. Vajra will be practiced mainly in the desert and plains. This cannon will greatly increase the firepower of the army's strike corps. These cannons have been inducted into the army.

American Howitzer M-777 with a range of 40 km
India decided to purchase 145 light weight M-777 Howitzer guns from the US for 5070 crores under fast track deal. 25 of these will come from America. The remaining 120 guns will be made by private sector company Mahindra Defense in the country itself. The 39 caliber cannon of 155 mm has a range of 30 to 40 km. The biggest feature of this world's most sophisticated gun is that it is very light weight. In such a situation, they can be easily transported by helicopter to inaccessible hilly areas. Their first consignment has been received by the army.

ATGS to hit 48 km
Indian Army has successfully conducted the final test of advanced tow artillery gun system in Pokaran recently. The advanced gun developed by DRDO is being manufactured by the government and private sector jointly. The gun is being jointly operated by the Ordnance Factory Board, Tata and Kalyani Group. Weighing 155 mm and 52 caliber weighing about 18 tons, the maximum firepower of this gun is up to 48 kilometers. This caliber gun has a world record of striking at such a distance. This gun works on the Fire and Foregate system. That is, it determines its goal in advance and strikes it very accurately. Day or night, they can fire with equal capacity. Army is going to buy 150 ATGS for 3,364 crores.

New Cannon to be Launched from Jabalpur Gun Factory
The Army's Gun Carriage Factory at Jabalpur has developed a new mounted gun system. This gun of 52 caliber and 155 mm can be mounted on any truck with more wheels. It has a capacity to hit 40 kilometers. This gun can fire more and more shells in very less time. It was included at the Defense Expo two years ago. The trial is underway. It will be built in collaboration with the private sector. The army has shown great interest in it and is ready to buy it.

Dhanush is better than Bofors

Dhanush is the indigenously made cannon of the Indian Army. Its design is similar to the Bofors Hobbits FH77, which was bought by India in the 80s. This 155 mm cannon is made by the Jabalpur Gun Carriage Factory. Its design has been prepared by Gun Carriage Board. The development trials of this cannon ended in 2018 and the work of making it started from 2019. Dhanush Cannon has a range of 38 km, while Bofors has a range of 29 km. Operations in Bofors are not automatic, while Dhanush Cannon has a computer and is automatic. That is, it can load the shell by automatic system and stain it. The bow barrel does not heat up even after firing for several consecutive hours.

Will increase the capacity of old guns Apart from Bofors, the army has 105 and 130 mm cannons of the 60s and 70s. Their firepower is limited. This cannon throws only 3.4 kg. However, after the upgrade, these guns can easily fire 8 kg. This will greatly increase the firepower. The army has started modernizing 300 of these. The 130 mm gun is being converted to 155 mm and 45 caliber. The upgradation work will be completed in the next two years. Upgrading each cannon will cost 70 lakh rupees. This is much less than the new cannon.
