Coronavirus: The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) made an necessary proposal to the federal government on Saturday (March 11, 2020), with the central and state governments contemplating to prolong the lockdown by two weeks. It mentioned that business sectors needs to be allowed to function in a managed method. The Department of Industry mentioned within the proposal that labor intensive sectors like textiles, cars, metal, protection and digital manufacturing needs to be allowed to function with 20-25% capacity. However, for this they observe correct security precautions.
In a letter despatched to Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla on 11 April, DPIIT Secretary Guruprasad Mohapatra mentioned that ‘few extra actions’ needs to be allowed to function with applicable safety measures other than industries which function important companies. In the letter, he mentioned, “These new activities are necessary to improve economic activities and to give cash in the hands of the people.”
