New Delhi . Construction of the nation's first indigenous aircraft carrier Vikrant is anticipated to be accomplished by 2021. Currently its building work is in the third part. The work of organising equipment and putting in different gear comparable to energy technology and propulsion equipment is occurring. Sources mentioned that port and sea trials will be accepted after the third part is constructed. Aviation trials could take up to a year. The ship is being constructed at the Cochin Shipyard in Kochi. This aircraft carrier will be succesful of carrying 20 MiG-29 fighter jets.
Naval Chief Admiral Karambir Singh mentioned on 3 December that Vikrant would be totally prepared for operations by 2022. It will have a fleet of MiG-29 aircraft. Officials mentioned Vikrant would be displayed with MiG-29 aircraft in the Navy tableau throughout the parade on Rajpath on Republic Day.
Only four nations have the capability to construct ships of 40 thousand tons
Vikrant is an aircraft carrier weighing 40 thousand tons. Only the United States, Russia, Britain and France have the capability to manufacture 40 thousand and above aircraft carriers in the world. Vikrant is succesful of carrying 20 MiG-29 fighter aircraft and ten helicopters. India has just one aircraft carrier, the ANS Vikramaditya, after INS Virat retired in 2017.
