Nobel Prize awarded economist Amartya Sen has claimed that the amended citizenship law (CAA) is not compatible with the provisions of the Constitution. He told reporters at an event organized by Infosys Science Foundation here that the CAA law in my view should be repealed by the Supreme Court on the ground of being unconstitutional because the fundamental rights we get are not those which are based on religious differences to citizenship

He said that it really matters to decide where a person is born. He lives where. He said that after reading about the CAA law, I believe that it violates the provisions of the Constitution. It is true that persecuted Hindus in any other country are entitled to sympathy and should take cognizance of their cases but citizenship should be kept separate from religion as well as the troubles of the oppressed or the exploited.
