Muscat. Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed Al Saeed, the longest reigning leader in the modern Arab world, died. He was 79 years old. The Royal Court gave its information on Saturday. He said, "With grief and deep despair … the Royal Court mourns the death of Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed. He said goodbye to the world on Friday. ”Kabus came to power in Oman in 1970, after the overthrow of his father Saeed bin Timur. The Diwan of the Royal Court declared a three-day national mourning over the demise of Sultan Qaboos.

Kabus bin Saeed had been ill for some time and he is believed to be suffering from stomach cancer. Kabus left no heir behind him. He was unmarried and had no children or brothers. In such a situation, who is in power in the country, it is not clear. According to the Constitution of Oman, it is mandatory for the royal family to choose a successor within three days of the throne being vacated. If the royal family does not agree on any one name, then someone mentioned in the letter written by Kabus will be made a successor. The new heir must be a member of the royal family. Also, he should be a Muslim, mature, rational and legitimate son of Oman's Muslim parents.

Sultan holds the highest position in Oman and he holds all the major positions

Local experts believe that more than 80 people are fulfilling this qualification, but there may be agreement on the name of Assad bin Tariq. Tariq (65) was made the Deputy Prime Minister in 2017 on International Relations and Cooperation. Apart from this, the names of Culture Minister Haitham bin Tariq Al Saeed and former Naval Commander of Oman Shihab bin Tariq Al Saeed are included. The Sultan holds the highest position in Oman and also holds positions such as Prime Minister, Supreme Commander of the Army, Defense Minister, Finance Minister and Foreign Minister. Kabus's personality is said to be charismatic and visionary. He was also very popular in Oman. However, he too had suppressed the voices of protest.
